Sucker Punched by Life? Here’s How to Bounce Back Stronger

No One's Coming to Save You – How to Be Your Own Hero - Episode 97

Today, I want to tell you a story. I have a friend who has been doing well in her career. She thought that she had the perfect marriage as well. So, storybook life, right? Well, there can’t be a story without some big challenges. Surely that's exactly what happened. All I have to say is that she got sucker punched both in her personal life and in her business life. It reached the point where she felt all she wanted to do was stick her head in the sand (like an ostrich) and just make it go away. And maybe it will go away if you don't think about it. But we know that that does nothing to help the situation.

So I told her, ‘’You have a choice. You can let this, all these struggles, and everything you're going through define you and drag you down, or you can use it to make yourself stronger.’’

No one is going to come and save you. You have to be able to save yourself. So when you tell a story about this terrible stuff happening, there will be people who may listen; if they do, they might feel sorry for you. I've always thought that the minute somebody starts feeling sorry for me, I'm in trouble. You never want to be in a situation where people will feel sorry for you.

You have a choice. You can let this bad thing define you or use it to make yourself stronger. I know all of you have had big challenges at some time in your life, so I advise you to do something fun for yourself. There was a saying: ‘’Go out and pick some daisies.’’

Take a moment for yourself and breathe. But then, I want you to be sure that you audit your thoughts. If you stay in this frame of mind where nothing's working out for you, it doesn't matter what it is; if you think that, it will happen. If you keep on spending time going, I can't make money; this is too hard - guess what's going to happen - you will not be able to make money. It will be hard for you. But if you flip your mindset and think about the solution, you will be in control of your destiny.

Stop complaining!

Stop wallowing!

Atop being ostrich!

If you had a goal set and it didn't happen:

Go back and reevaluate what you did!

Go pick up the phone!

Go send the emails!

Do the followup!

Do everything you need to do to get to the next level.

Find a mentor; find somebody who is already successful in doing what you want to do.

You have a choice. You could let some failure define you (I'm hoping you don't do that).

Or you can use that to make yourself stronger.

Focus on the solution.

When you focus on the solution and where you want to be, everything starts to fall into place.

Everyone has gone through a hard time in their life and business. Don't wallow. Don't stick your head in the sand because that won't help the situation.

Pick yourself up by the bootstraps and use whatever happened—that negative thing—to learn from it and make yourself stronger to get to the next level. Only you can do that!

I've had some tough times but haven't let those things stop me.

I use them as a springboard.

I learn from it.

I figure out how to pivot and how to change so that I can propel myself to the next level.

So again, remember, nobody's going to save you. Only you can save yourself and take what you have learned from whatever challenge you have and use it to make yourself stronger.
