What Makes Up The Rule Breakers?
I’m excited about this episode because we are going to talk about what it takes to be a Rule Breaker with Dave Espino. He's always been the evangelist for entrepreneurs. He introduces people to the world of their own business, helping them break away from the nine-to-five rule.
Not everyone suits it, so here we go.
Doing Something You Love
Dave has been skateboarding since he was 12 years old and at the time, it was something many people were NOT taking seriously. But if you’re doing something you love, then you shouldn’t care what other people think. You just go for it and you stick with it.
Ladies and gentlemen, that’s the same thing with business.
Having Freedom
Dave's first experience skateboarding was at a flea market. He saw this kid gliding on a skateboard as though he was flying. Immediately, he knew that that was something he wanted to do.
Skateboarding triggered freedom in his brain. It gets his mind out of all worldly noise and became his healthy addiction for freedom. Skateboarding taught Dave lessons that eventually developed into entrepreneurial traits. Most notably, doing what you love and having the sense of FREEDOM when doing it.
Learning How to Learn
One of the best lessons years of skateboarding has taught Dave is the never-ending process of learning. To learn a new maneuver, you've got to fail often— business works the same.
If you truly have the seed of entrepreneurship in you, quitting shouldn’t even be part of the equation. Just think of it this way: you just haven't developed yourself yet the way that you should. So, what to do then?
Make a mental note of what went wrong and then try again— but in a slightly different way.
Just Doing It
The essence of skateboarding is believing you can do something BEFORE you can do it. That's the same thing with entrepreneurship. When you visualize, then you’ll know where to go.
It’s better to fail at something you tried doing than not do anything at all. All progress comes from at least a little bit of pain. And you always have to be willing to go through that little bit of pain to see progress.
Zoning In
Being in the moment is a kind of feeling that takes you into a state of flow. A meditative state where your mind gets to rest.
That's what happens after zoning out in doing what you love, may it be entrepreneurship or skateboarding.
A sense of true euphoria.
What's a Rule Breaker?
When you think outside the box, and you're not marching like everyone else, that’s being a rule breaker.
That falls into being creative when it comes to problem-solving. To be successful, you've got to look a little deeper. You've got to look at motivations, what can help people, and what can serve people at deeper levels.
You've got to be a little bit ahead of the pack.
What's Next?
He's currently doing cryptocurrency and yield farming courses. This is why the next big thing Dave has in mind is having a twin business.
He still wants to bring the online course business to the world and he’s got some big plans for that.
But along with that, he also wants to dive deep into the crypto business. He fell in love with crypto back in 2017 and says that there's so much more to crypto than just buying coins and making returns. Money is completely being reinvented and it's providing so many opportunities.
So, if you have a passion for entrepreneurship go for it. Be relentless.
